We took a quick holiday from our holiday and decided to visit the old country, England. If you've read our blog entry on Gibraltar, then there isn't really anything new in England that you haven't already read about.
We took the ferry from Calais to Dover.
On Thursday night we went to dinner with some of Josh's oldest and Yasmin's newest friends. From left to right: Saul, Hannah, Lorraine, Booba, Mary, Lisa, Beverly, Gavin and Joe.
On Friday we went with Beverly (Josh's mum) to Greenwich. This is the view of the Old Royal Naval College from the Isle of Dogs.
The Painted Hall
Yaz and Josh standing concurrently in the eastern and western hemispheres along the Greenwich meridian. This is of course because we support the International Meridian Conference decision of 1884 to officially recognise this, and not the Paris meridian, as the Prime Meridian of the world.
Later that day we took a cruise along the Thames.
On Monday we did some shopping in and around Covent Garden and had lunch in the colourful Neal's Yard.
Perhaps the most surprising thing about this trip to London was the weather. It was over 20°C most days and was also incredibly bright.
On Wednesday we took a stroll through Hampstead Heath with Shula and Amy (Yasmin's relatives) which was delightful.
On Thursday we went to a great exhibition at the British museum about the Hajj and made a quick visit to the Natural History Musuem where we met Dippy.
On Friday night we had dinner with some of Josh's family. Clockwise from the left: Henry, Lilah, John, Suzy, Oliver, Yaz, Josh, Beverly, Matthew and Janice.
On Saturday, Amy took us on her world famous tour of East London. Obviously, the highlight was the beigels at Brick Lane Bakery. Get the salt beef beigel and you will never go hungry again!
We had a great day visiting some markets, Hackney city farm and loads of cool streets and shops. Unfortunately the tour was cut short when a slimy pink alien from the planet Zorbo threw detonating winged-zorbs at passers-by.
Of course, the purpose of our visit was the wedding of Oliver (Josh's cousin) and Suzy (Josh's cousin in-law and Yasmin's cousin in-law² ).
We had a great time and wish the two of them all the best for the future.
