We were joined by Josh's parents, Beverly and Jeff, for two incredible weeks in Italy. We began in Cinque Terre, so named because of the five beautiful towns situated on the rocky Ligurian coast.
After a winding drive we arrived late in the day to our town of choice, Corniglia. From our balcony, we had a perfect view of the colourful hamlet.
Similar photo, later that evening.
From the balcony we could also see our neighbouring village, Manarola.
Similar photo, after the storm had passed.
More pretty pictures from Corniglia.
Similar view, 80 minutes later.
Some of our neighbours within Corniglia.
On Day 1 and a half, we trained to Riomaggiore, the southernmost town.
Between Manarola and Corniglia, the easy trail had been destroyed by a landslide 2 years ago. Amazingly, the otherwise efficient Italian government hadn't fixed it yet.
So we climbed.
'Twas a beautiful walk through the terraced vineyards.
This would be such a nice photo if Josh wasn't a moron.
Mildly better.
After the exhausting walk, we watched yet another sunset from our balcony in Corniglia.
Day 2 and a half: More walking. The first leg took us from Corniglia to town 4, Vernazza.
It was lovely and surprising to see, that although the area is tourist heavy, the locals still grow as much as they can on this challenging terrain.
Some friends we met along the route.
Another surprise was that we saw no donkeys. It seems these days it's more efficient to carry produce up and down the mountain using a roller-coaster.
The final town, Monterosso.
Our visit finished with a boat trip back to the start.
