Santorini

The third and final Greek island of our summer holiday was Santorini. The island group is a volcanic caldera which famously erupted 3,600 years ago destoying the Minoan civilisation on nearby Crete. If you haven't been before you may want to go before the next eruption which could be within the next few years.

To get a sense of the islands' shape, here is a satellite image.

The island is known for its picturesque towns,

its white eggplants (a.k.a. aubergines)

sexy young Greek men

and blue-domed churches.

Other than hanging out by the pool, we made a trip to the ruins of Akrotiri, a town destroyed and preserved by the previously mentioned volcanic eruption.

And a few visits to the main town, Fira.

On the final afternoon we walked around the edge of the caldera to experience the amazing view.

Santorini is also known for its incredible sunsets. Josh just couldn't help himself.

Bye bye Greece. So long and thanks for all the dolmades!
