Tuscany

We spent five wonderful days in Tuscany staying in an apartment among the rolling hills near the town of Castelfiorentino.

On our first day we strolled around the perfectly located city of Siena.

After climbing many, many towers around Europe we can honestly say that the view from atop the Torre del Mangia in Siena was incredible and unique. Very rarley do you get a view of an historic town which ends at fields and vineyards rather than suburbs of modern apartment buildings.

The Siena cathedral, completed in 1263.

Did you know that the musician Leonardo da Vinci was from the Tuscan town of Vinci? He was also a painter, sculptor, architect, scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist, and writer. Anyway, here's the view from Vinci.

We toured San Gimignano, famous for its dozen tower houses.

Mmmm, pasta

Pisa

When we got to Pisa and saw the famous leaning tower, we noticed many people doing some very strange actions with their bodies.

We noticed that they were posing for some hilarious photos of the tower, so we did the same.

It was actually really strange being at the top of the tower, and well worth the climb.

Visiting Lucca later in the day we took our relationship to a whole new level by riding a tandem bike.

The ride around the old city walls was beauty and peace full.

We were lucky enough to be in Lucca on the 13th of September when they hold a parade to remember the time that an angel did a wood carving of Jesus.

The streets, squares and churches were all lit by candelight.

On our final morning together with Josh's parents, we did a tour of a local winery, Sovestro in Poggio.

Now we are really sophisticated.

With the scraps from the harvest they make grappa, if the bees don't get to it first.

And so we say good bye to Beverly and Jeff (or mum and dad as half of us call them). We had a brilliant 11 days and look forward to seeing them soon in some great foreign land.

  1. This post made me laugh! I love the daggo Pisa photos and the tandem bike bit and that Yasmin is steering. Very brave of you Josh! That photo could have only been made better if you had made the 'peace' sign... :-P
